Painting with Tissue Paper- A Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers Art Lesson- A post-impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh is personally one of my favorite of all time. His paintings reveal true emotion, texture and vibrant colors. Although he never knew how famous of an artist he would become after his death, Van Gogh no doubt has a huge impact in the world of art today.

Spring Flower Color Wheel- One of the most basic topic to teach your child (in terms of art ;-) ) is the Elements of Art: Form, line, shape, color, texture, space, and value. I like to spend a lot of time talking to the young ones about color and color theory- because they are just learning how to identify each color!  

The Art of Paper Marbling for Kids When I taught art, one of my students’ favorite activities was creating and marbling paper. Every year my art class would create Holiday Cards for soldiers protecting our country overseas using the paper they created and marbled. For this lesson, I will teach you how to create marbled paper the inexpensive way for you to do at home or in your classroom.










Abstract Shapes Picture- Shapes are everywhere. Anything that you look at can be broken down into basic shapes. Teaching children this basic concept can open the door to endless creative possibilities as well as teaching them their shapes.

Weaving Made Easy- Need a rainy day activity that is fun, creative and a great way to work on those fine motor skills? Teaching your child to weave just may be the thing you need! My daughter (3.5 years of age) and I have spent the last few months working on this awesome activity together. In fact, the last few times that we worked on it, she got so good she needed little help from me!

 

 

 

 

 

Rainbow "Blown Glass" Sculpture- I have to start off this post by stating that I am in love with the art of blown glass. It fascinates me. I only wish that a nearby college or art school would hold such a creative class.

A lesson that I used to do with my students (via DickBlick.com) based on the glass artist,
Dale Chihuly got me as close to the real thing that I could get. Personally, I worked at a school where the materials they requested just didn't fit our budget. Honestly transparency sheets (what's that Mrs. Electronic Whiteboard??) and acrylic paint and markers work just as well as you will see in our "blown glass sculpture" below.
