Kid's Craft- Baby St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Leprechaun

Create a fun St. Patrick's Day craft with your baby (and older)! My 10 month old had a blast through self-exploration with paints and different textures.

Classified: Easy. Well, easy enough that a baby can do it!

What you need:

• Green and yellow finger paint (non-toxic)
• Sponge
• Green and black construction paper
• Photo of your baby
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Glue

Optional: salt and cardboard (cereal or shirt box) for further sensory exploration.

What to do:

1. Give your baby a piece of green construction paper and put a dab (or two) of green finger paint onto it. Encourage them to play and move the paint around the paper. Once the paint is fully thinned out by their little fingers, put some yellow finger paints onto a sponge and show them how to dab it onto the paper. Remember: what is in their hands can go into their mouths!
2. Allow to dry.
3. Cut into a shamrock.
4. Using the black construction paper, cut two arms, boots and two strips (one for a belt for pants and another for the hat).
5. Cut a hat out of a piece of green construction paper.
6. Cut out your baby's face from your selected photo.
7. Assemble according to my example and glue into place.

Sponge Painting

My little man smiles and squeals every time he sees his artwork!

Optional sensory play: Using the piece of cardboard, dab a drop (or two) of green finger paint in the center. Add some salt and have your baby move it around to feel the texture. My little man refused at first, but then decided it wasn't so bad. Again, remember- what goes in the baby hand will go into the mouth! Stay close ;-)
