Toddler Halloween Moon Shadow Craft

My 18 month old loved this sensory-based learning craft for Halloween with our homemade puffy paint that we borrowed from Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas. Very easy to make and think of all the different possibilities!

Classified: easy and messy= FUN!

What you need:

• Any type of plastic Halloween cookie cutter
• Shaving cream
• White glue
• White and yellow paint
• Black and yellow construction paper
• Paper bowl (small)
• Sponge brush
• Scissors
• SMOCK!!!

What to do:

Prep: Mix shaving cream, glue and white paint together. (Approx. 1 part glue - 1 part white paint to 3 parts shaving cream (art major not math- remember :-) ) You will also need to tear yellow pieces of paper and mix 1 part glue and 2 parts water together in a separate container.

1. Using your plastic cookie cutters like the ones we used here:

Allow your toddler to play with the homemade puffy paint and show them how to stamp there cookie cutter onto a black sheet of construction paper. Allow to dry.

2. To make the moon: If you can find a yellow bowl (or have on handy) that's awesome- use that one. If not, have your toddler paint the inside of the bowl. BEFORE the paint dries, tear apart some pieces of yellow construction paper and have your child stick it to the wet paint. Once they are satisfied (or bored after about a minute and a half :-) ) give them a sponge brush and show them how to paint over their moon with the glue water mixture.

3. Allow all pieces to dry over night.

4. Once dry, cut out 1 (or more if you would like) of the toddler's puffy painted cookie cutter shapes and glue it to the bottom of the moon. When a light hits it directly, it will look as though the figure has cast a shadow! Optional: Draw a face onto the ghost.
