Mom Craft: Snowman Treat Jars

Here is a cute gift idea that is cheap and fun to make for moms! All you need to do is start saving some of your recycled jars to make this adorable treat jar.

Classified: Easy Sometimes moms just need to be crafty too!

What you need:

1. Glass jars of any size and shape
2. White acrylic spray paint
3. Black felt top hats
4. Ribbon 3/4" thick or less
5. Googly eyes
6. Black buttons of various sizes
7. Glue Gun
8. Glue Sticks
9. Scissors
10. Long Bead (for nose)
11. 1 Pipe cleaner (black or brown)

What You do:

1. Paint jars white with the white spray paint. Allow to dry and do 2-3 more coats (allow to dry in between coats).



Hat

2. Using the hot glue gun, glue the felt hat to the lid.



Scarf

3. Wrap the ribbon around the neck of the jar to measure and cut an extra 1" to make a scarf. Using the hot glue gun; wrap the ribbon around and glue about 1/2" up from the end of the ribbon in the center of what would be the snowman's face.



Eyes, nose and buttons!

4. Glue on the eyes, nose and buttons as in the picture shown.

5. To make the arms- cut two 3" pieces from your black or brown pipe cleaner. Cut another two 1.5" pieces as well. Twist the end of the 3" piece around the middle of a 1.5" piece. Repeat for other arm.



Arm

6. Bend about a 1/2" at the opposite end of the hand and glue to sides of jar. Once dry you can reposition them.
7. Fill with candy, coffee, tea bags or whatever you'd like and give away as a gift!

  

 

Kid's Craft: Christmas Tree Foot and Hand Print Painting

After a long day of being snowed-in, I needed something different and messy to do with the kiddos. Roll up your sleeves and take off your socks and shoes for this project- because it's gonna be a ticklish kind of mess ;-) Toddlers and preschoolers love to paint with their hands and feet!

Preschool Tree

Classified: Easy. Takes about 30 minutes or so with each child.

What you need:

1. Left Foot, right foot
2. Left hand, right hand
3. Green, Red, Yellow, White and Brown Tempera Paint
4. 12x18" Yellow and Blue Construction Paper
5. Palette
6. Sponge brush
7. And something to wipe your kids hands and feet off quickly- I used baby wipes.

What to do:

1. Paint the bottom of your child's foot (either one) and stamp it 10 times on the piece of 12x18" yellow construction paper so it forms a pyramid. One foot on top- row 2 has two feet stamps- Row 3 has three feet stamps and so on. Make sure to slightly overlap each foot.
2. Paint hand brown and stamp upside down for tree trunk.
3. Allow to dry.
4. Cut out the tree and bark and glue it to the blue sheet of construction paper.
5. Paint child's hand white and stamp it around the bottom to create snow.
6. Have your child dip their fingerprints into the red and yellow paint to make ornaments on the tree.
7. Dry and Hang!

Toddler Tree

Kid's Craft: Snowflake Photo Frame Winter Craft

This craft is easy to do with any age. I did this last year when my daughter was 18 months and my son was 3. It's Great to hang up all winter long!

Classified: Easy

What you need:

1. Wooden Snowflake
2. Blue and white Tempera or acrylic paint
3. Silver glitter (fine)
4. Modge Podge
5. Photo of child
6. Paint Marker- Dark Blue or Black
7. Sponge Brushes- medium

 What to do:

1. Drop dots of blue and white paint about 1" apart throughout the entire wooden Snowflake.
2. Allow your child to smear the paint using the sponge brush. Encourage them to swirl the paint over the entire snowflake making sure that the blue and white don't blend completely.
3. Allow to dry.
4. Add one coat of Modge Podge and quickly sprinkle with silver glitter.
5. Allow to dry.
6. Apply Modge Podge  to back of child's photo and place in center of the snowflake ornament. Dry.
7. Write "Happy Holidays" and/or the year onto the snowflake with paint marker.
8. Apply two coats of Modge Podge over the entire snowflake (including photo) twice, drying between coats.

Hang and enjoy!
